OTTAWA – Today, NDP Pensions Critic Scott Duvall renewed his call on Trudeau’s Liberal government to legislate pension protection in the case of corporate insolvency.
New Democrats aren’t the only ones who have been calling for this.
In their letter addressed to Duvall, a coalition of organizations that represent Canadian retirees identified the urgent need for the Liberal government to amend the insolvency legislation to protect pensions and to create a Pensions Insurance plan that insures 100% pension liability.
“The NDP unequivocally supports these initiatives and have been asking the Minister of Seniors over and over to ensure pensions security,” said Duvall. “Liberals need to stop stalling, and listen to Canadian workers and retirees and protect their hard earned pensions in the case of corporate bankruptcy.”
